Dropout Rate in Vocational Education Training
Indicator Phrasing
English: % of trainees who enrolled but did not complete [specify the VET program]
What is its purpose?
The indicator assesses the percentage of participants who were enrolled in a given vocational education training (VET) program at a given time period and did not complete the training.
How to Collect and Analyse the Required Data
1) Review VET institutions’ documentation related to training enrolment, attendance and repetition to determine how many students have officially or unofficially stopped attending the training.
2) To calculate the indicator's value, divide the number of students who did not complete the training by the number of students who enrolled in the training. Multiply the result by 100 to convert it to a percentage.
Disaggregate by
Consider disaggregating the data by the training type, trainees’ gender or according to a specific group of students (for example, students with disabilities).
Important Comments
1) If possible, it may also be useful to track the main reasons for dropping out, i.e. dropout rates by reason for dropping out.
