Gender and Age Marks

IASC’s “Gender with Age Marker” and DG ECHO’s “Gender-Age Marker” are tools used to assess how well projects mainstream gender and age considerations and what their key opportunities for improvements are.

IASC’s “Gender with Age Marker” asks project team members to complete a brief questionnaire that examines how gender and age are addressed in 10 key aspects of any relief or development intervention. It should be completed during the project design and monitoring phase. The resulting score helps organizations understand what they can improve in how they mainstream gender and age. DG ECHO’s “Gender-Age Marker” asks organizations to provide information on the Single Form relating to the four assessed criteria, namely: gender and age analysis (incl. sex- and age-disaggregated data), adapted assistance, prevention or mitigation of negative effects, and adequate participation). The organization also indicates whether the proposed project meets all four criteria and suggests a gender-age mark (0, 1, 2 or N/A). DG ECHO and the organization then discuss any comments or issues regarding the integration of gender and age, and the organization addresses the key feedback. As the next step, DG ECHO first determines an initial mark, which may be revised based on monitoring visits and the final report. The whole process is intended to help organizations improve how they mainstream gender and age in their project design and implementation.
